Good Old-Fashioned Racism (1)

In a link to a HuffPo article, WND posts, “Sum Ting Wong: Heads Roll After TV Gaffe.” This refers to the South Korean airline crash a few weeks ago and the subsequent FOX news affiliate KTVU broadcast where an anchor read the “names” of the pilot and others on the plane. The “names” were clearly wrong and highly racist versions that a thinking American would notice: “Sum Ting Wong,” “Wi Tu Lo,” “Ho Lee Fuk” and “Bang Ding Ow.”

The HuffPo article is reporting that several at the network have been fired for this. I say good. This never would have happened at the Daily Planet.

I also observe that WND commenters tend to claim that everyone is racist against white Americans, and that they are usually the bastion of civility. This is pointed out by “Tosheba” with the second-highest-rated comment at the moment: “Oh, but it’s okay to bash and racially offend Caucasians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Up your nose with a rubber hose.”

The top-rated comment at the moment is by “publicola” with 12 up-votes and 0 down-votes: “D.J Dolce reported that the Korean airline was going to sue. She said they hired a lawyer named Wi Su Yu to represent the client whose name I think was Yu Pai Mi.” The response by “Jamal22” is, “I see nothing racist in that. I only see FUNNY!”

The lowest-rated comment is from “IJustWantTruth” who states: “Highly offensive to me except for Som Ting Wong. That’s universal comedy right there. Rest is profound racism on steroids….like with the Cartalk credits.” They have 1 up-vote and 3 down.

WND, if you want racism, look no further than your own commenters.
