Civil Rights for Blacks Only?

Nearly a week ago, Star Parker wrote, “Black Pastors, Take Back Civil-Rights Movement” (not sure why there’s a hyphen in there, I’ve never seen one before in that term).

The article is a lengthy diatribe about how Big Gay is using the term “civil-rights” (we’re not, we’re using “civil rights”) and equating it to the movement in the 1960s that persons of African ancestry in America went through. After all, they were being denied, well, civil rights, in the name of lots of stuff. Homosexuals today in America (and around the world) are being denied, well, civil rights, in the name of lots of stuff. Seems like a valid point to me.

But no, Star Parker is ticked because she thinks that the “civil-rights” movement was Bible-based, whereas of course homosexuality is not. Interesting that I remember slavery being okay in the Bible. A lot of slavery. But to repeat, to Star Parker, “The civil-rights movement was a Christian movement. … Yet homosexuals have hijacked the civil-rights movement.”

The only good thing is that there are only 18 comments to Star’s vitriol. And amazingly, the top-rated comment is by “Allen Lanning” with 10 up-votes, 0 down-votes:

Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood.
Coretta Scott King

Freedom and justice cannot be parceled out in pieces to suit political convenience. I don’t believe you can stand for freedom for one group of people and deny it to others.
Coretta Scott King

I believe all Americans who believe in freedom, tolerance and human rights have a responsibility to oppose bigotry and prejudice based on sexual orientation.
Coretta Scott King

You go guy!

And “Bernie Keefe” is the second-highest with 6 up and 0 down: “What Miss Star fails to comprehend is that it’s called “Civil Rights”, not ‘Black Civil Rights’. Civil Rights are not exclusive to any given minority. Ergo, this article is fallacious.”

Tied with “brianstg” with: “Nice, you blame the break down of the black family on gays wanting to get married? Civil rights belong to all citizens, even the ones you were taught to demonize and blame. You are no starr.”

Meanwhile, RightWingWatch has also commented on Star’s rant at this link.
